Category 1 requirement-based modifications

Category 1 requirements are that all openings in the cockpit be sealed and water tight.  This includes the blower hole near the engine gauge panel.

We solved this requirement by making a swing-up door out of 1/4" ABS plastic.  This is sealed by a foam rubber gasket.

The floorboards are kept down with small brass brackets that we fabricated to hook under the transverse stringers.

The other ends of the floorboards use typical safety locks.

We installed seven Wichard folding padeyes in strategic locations around the cockpit. These have a breaking strength of over 10,000 lbs. We could practically lift the boat by each padeye. This padeye is directly behind the wheel. The helmsman can clip into this padeye with the 3' tether and reach both the port and starboard winches.

There are also two padeyes right near the companionway. Crew can clip in before exiting the cabin.

Each padeye is mounted with three 5/16" bolts and backed by 3"x3" stainless steel plates.

We installed 3/16" uncoated wire (per ORC guidelines) jacklines which run from the cockpit, inside of the shrouds, to a diamond padeye just aft of the staysail tack, about 5' aft of the bow.

We mounted our LifeSling hoisting tackle on the underside of the main lazeratte hatch. Here it can be quickly accessed, will not get covered with other gear, and will remain untangled. We chose oversized line (7/16") so it would fit well in our self-tailing winches.

We secure the companionway steps with a fastener mounted on the port side at the bottom. We installed fitting on several other parts of the boat such as the nav table and storage bins, to keep them from coming open in the event of a roll-over.
