Radar installation

We installed the radar display so that we could view it from below...

and from the cockpit.

We chose to install it on the backstay using a Waltz gimbal mount.
The base of the mount attaches to a UHMW plastic fitting (custom made) that bolts
around the lower pushpit bar.

The radar cable runs inside the post. We wrapped it at the top and bottom with
rigging tape to protect it from UV rays and chafe.

Here's the radar on the mount. We chose to have the dome aft of the backstay so it
wasn't swinging directly over our heads in a seaway. Note the SSB/Ham antenna running
up the backstay with stand-offs every 18 inches.

We found an unusual use for radar...navigating a dense anchorage at night. Even the boats
without anchor lights show up well on radar!
